During the middle Ages, picture of tapestry became a status symbol among the nobility. The walls of the castle were large and to cover a wall of tapestry, large looms, skilled workers needed to weave the intricate patterns and a big investment of money. Nobles and kings through tapestries with them as they travel as a show of prestige and for comfort. At the end of a battle the conqueror would often confiscate valuable tapestries from the walls of the castle in a show of victory. Parthenon and other important government buildings under the Greek Empire had walls covered with fabrics.

Functional

Not only was a picture of tapestry beautiful, but it was functional. A castle was dark and damp, and hanging a woven would lay insulation on the walls. The wallpaper was a barrier to keep the cold in the stone wall coming into the stables. Tapestries also divided rooms, used instead of doors and hung over the windows. Stories were heard in intricately woven scenes. Biblical stories were popular during the middle Ages, like fables and scenes of working peasants and nobility. Karl V called his head painter to join him in the fight to make sketches of battle scenes. The sketches are then woven to tapestry hangings. Greenery surrounding the castle was also popular with kings and nobility. Craftsmen worked in groups to complete lavish pieces of fabric.

Modern picture of tapestry have a curtain rod pocket on the back of the wallpaper. Slip a wooden stick or a more ornate metal bar with a ball through the pocket to hang the fabric on the wall. Select the appropriate hardware style to attach to the wall and mount the bar. Dust of fabric with a soft brush or use a drapery vacuum bracket for cleaning.
